The Marriage In Lysekil
Uncle Gianni, breathing with the controlled dignity of a man who will not be defeated by two toddlers at a wedding, executes a lateral shuffle down the side aisle that is, by any objective measure, impressive. Flavio, tucked under the left arm, has committed to a thorough investigation of the moustache — pulling at the left side with genuine scientific dedication. Gianni doesn't flinch. He has survived a full Neapolitan Christmas; moustache interference is well within his tolerances. Aurora, under the right arm, holds her spare boutonnière and surveys the back pews with the calm of a field marshal selecting her position. The Hat Lady sits at the end of the third row from the rear, her extraordinary brim already causing spatial difficulties for the guest beside her. Gianni deposits the twins with surprising precision, one either side of himself, and exhales. The congregation hums with the opening notes of the ring hymn. Aurora turns to study the Hat Lady's hat with the focused interest of someone who has just had an idea. Flavio raises the boutonnière.
