The Marriage In Lysekil
Uncle Gianni sets his jaw and begins the procession — two toddlers under his arms, dignity firmly intact. The Swedish guests follow him with the intensity of people watching a nature documentary. He navigates the aisle without incident, a minor miracle, and arrives at Luca's pew. Luca has not moved. Luca has not blinked. Gianni lowers Flavio — boutonnière still in fist — to approximately Luca's eye level. A wordless negotiation takes place. Flavio studies the flower. He studies Luca. Luca waits, ancient and patient. Then, with the gravity of someone surrendering something very precious, Flavio releases the boutonnière. Aurora, who has been watching closely, judges this the correct diplomatic moment and presents her own boutonnière — the one peeled from Gianni's lapel — to Luca also. Luca considers both flowers with the bearing of a young king receiving tribute, keeps one, and returns the other with a small, regal nod. Uncle Gianni lowers both twins into the pew beside Luca. The prelude swells. No one has reached the candle display. Gianni counts this as a win.
